The Central Library Thursday Lunchtime group has just been talking about The Spire by William Golding.
We all agreed it was a book like no other we had ever read and many of us found it very puzzling. One perceptive member explained that because the whole story is described through the voice and eyes of the central character, we miss things that he wouldn’t want us to see.
Its a book about obsession that makes for uncomfortable reading but we all agreed it is absolutely the sort of book a reading group should try because we can bring the bits we find difficult for other people to shed light on.
